"I feel like I missed out on my childhood.  My mother's boyfriends used to sexually abuse me and beat me so I dropped out of school and ran away to London when I was 14"

Adult Services and Programmes

Philip with ClientAddiction affects every aspect of a person's life, as well as the lives of the people around them. Successful recovery therefore involves much more than a short programme of treatment. It means rebuilding the confidence and self worth needed to lead a healthy, independent lifestyle in the long-term future.

Dependence on drugs or alcohol leaves many people without a job or a home. That's why, at The Nelson Trust, we offer not just a comprehensive programme of treatment but also educational and training opportunities and a resettlement and housing initiative. We believe that by integrating these three components into a complete programme of care and support, we offer people the best chance of recovery.

The needs of every client are different - which is one of the reasons why we firmly believe in treating people as individuals. All our programmes are tailored to meet individual needs, and are delivered by a dedicated, highly qualified staff team who work hard to create a supportive atmosphere of mutual respect, partnership and understanding. Each client works with his or her counsellor to develop a treatment plan.

The Trust's treatment philosophy is abstinence- based and has its roots in the 12-step approach. We strongly believe that our clients need to be involved in setting goals and reviewing objectives which will help to shape their future.
