Treatment Overview

The Nelson Trust is a national treatment provider, established as a registered charity (No.1056672) in 1985. Our approach is abstinence-based, and uses an integrative approach to counselling alongside a range of other therapeutic techniques.

We have a maximum of 41 bed spaces in residential treatment. These are available in four separate houses located within a short walking distance of the main treatment centre building. Nelson Trust also provides 22 bed spaces in our resettlement facilities based in Stroud and Gloucester. The majority of our clients will stay in residential treatment for around six months and may stay in our resettlement houses for up to a further year. The Nelson Trust will accept clients within the age range of 17 to 75, who are willing to commit to being abstinent for the duration of the programme. Every client will be comprehensively assessed before admission. Clients do not need to be abstinent before the assessment can take place but, if required, will need to have successfully completed a detoxification process prior to admission.

We usually receive funding from the following sources: Social Services, Benefits Agency, National Health Service, or Probation Service. However we also take clients who pay for their own treatment or who are funded from private insurance.

Each residential treatment house is run as a therapeutic community, sharing shopping, cooking and household responsibilities. The therapeutic treatment day usually starts at 9.15am and ends between 4pm and 5pm. An evening programme of community based self help groups and/or recreational activities is also available. The main programme runs from Monday to Friday. We also have a Saturday programme.
