Our Nelson Trust Women's Centre’s in Gloucester and Swindon provide a women-only space where a wide range of support needs can be addressed in a safe and supportive environment. Our Women’s Community Services are countywide across Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. Services are trauma-informed and gender responsive providing holistic support to women and their families.
Who is this service for and how can I access?
This service is for women in Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We accept referrals from any professional or women may refer themselves. Please see the purple box on the right for referral details.
How does the service work?
Every woman is offered a detailed individual assessment of their needs across nine “pathways”. These include accommodation; physical and mental health; drugs and alcohol; finance and benefits; family and relationships; domestic abuse; sex working; education and training; attitudes, thinking and behaviour. Each client has their own Keyworker who works with them to develop a support plan to address their needs. This will be achieved through one-to-one sessions, group work and access to specialist services across the county.
What is it like to be a client at your Woman's Centre?
In this photo-film a former client, Kathleen, shares her experience of working with her Keyworker to overcome a range of challenges, including her relationship with her young son, housing and money worries and her own feelings of self-respect and confidence:
Another woman, Henna, talks here about her experience of arriving at our Women's Centre for the first time.
What else do we do?
Throughout the week there is a full timetable of activities, including accredited educational courses, workshops, drop in’s and groups which cover well-being, life skills and creative activities. We have an onsite crèche facility, showers, washing machine, garden and a café area.
We also run a new service for young women in Gloucestershire. For more information visit our Rural Outreach Service page.
