Branching Out II - On The Brink

On The Brink - Giant JigsawThe Nelson Trust art group, run by local artist Julia Christie, has created a giant jigsaw which has been exhibited at Branching Out II in the Gallery in the Park, Stroud. It is titled ‘On the Brink’ and includes 50 detailed paintings of animals, birds and insects at risk of extinction.  It took a lot of hard work by the group to get it finished in time, but I think everyone will agree it was worth the effort.

Tim, one of the artists, said ‘For such a long time you got your buzz for just an hour or so.  What we did was throwaway.   We even threw away our bodies.   Painting is a good way of relieving anxiety and tension as well as improving communication within a group.’

Kieran, who also took part in the project, agreed.  ‘Working as a team means that, when you’re down, the others encourage you.   I want to go to college to do art.  This has given me time to know what I want to do and get back into education.  Before, I just had no structure and no routine.’

The giant jigsaw is also going on to be exhibited at Westonbirt Arboretum.
