Nelson Wins National Award

csj awardThe Nelson Trust has won a national award for best organisation addressing issues of addiction in the Centre for Social Justice Awards 2009. 335 organisations applied for the national awards programme that rewards innovative and effective British poverty fighters. Winners were announced at a prestigious awards event in London on 1 July 2009. The Centre for Social Justice is an independent think tank that seeks effective solutions to the poverty that blight parts of Britain.

The award was in honour of Maxie Richards (pictured on the right) who has personally made a difference to the lives of hundreds of addicts in her community by helping them to address the root of their addictions.  Jo Noe, ex-service user (pictured on the left) received the award on behalf of Nelson Trust.

Steve Cooke, the Nelson Trust’s Chief Executive said: “We are very proud of our achievements within our organisation and of the many people who have already succeeded in breaking their substance misusing cycle and rebuilding a meaningful life within their community.  We take our work very seriously, we employ high quality staff who in turn deliver high quality treatment to our clients.  We are delighted to receive such prestigious recognition of achievement, particularly as we are about to enter our 25th year.” Social Justice

A distinguished cast of politicians and well known figures attended the evening to present the awards including Emma Crosby, Eric Pickles MP, Rt Ho Charles Clarke MP, Simon Hughes MP, Tamsin Grieg and Ben Ockri. For more information click here
