Turnaround Programme

ypThe Young People’s project is an integrated learning programme of education and therapy; a holistic, inclusive approach designed to help young people put their drug and alcohol problems behind them and take control of their lives.

We work in partnership with other stake holders/agencies, the young person’s family and the community in which they live. This can empower them to make positive life changes.

Who is eligible?

• Young people aged 13 to 17
• Young people with significant substance misuse problems
• Non-attendees at school
• Young people who have been excluded from school
• Any young person who wants the support and guidance to change their life, which is being adversely affected by the misuse of drugs or alcohol

How will it work?

Through outreach work and mentorship in schools, in partnership with InfoBuzz, the Healthy Schools Partnership and Active Gloucestershire, and working in line with the 'Every Child Matters' agenda, we will identify young people who would benefit from a place on the intensive programme.

What is the intensive programme?

Young people will take part in:
• A 12-week day-time learning and treatment programme this reflects key elements of the national curriculum through citizenship and provides an opportunity for vocational study and physical recreation
• Therapeutic intervention involving their carers and families. Treatment will be based on current research and have a strong evidence base for success
• Opportunities to achieve accreditation through nationally approved bodies
• An additional 2-week residential stay. This incorporates the input of partner agencies and will focus on the young person’s therapeutic and educational requirements

All young people will have a personalised treatment and learning plan (TLP) tailored to their individual needs, this will be reviewed weekly. Each young person will be encouraged to take an active role in directing their programme.  Following a review of their successful completion of the programme, the participants will be supported through a process of reintegration into the community.

Through an integrated learning and treatment programme, we will:
• Provide an opportunity for the young person to stay safe, learn, enjoy and achieve
• Empower the young person to positively shape their future in a positive way and turn their back on drug or alcohol misuse.
• Create a forum for professionals to work in partnership with the young person and their family
