Group Talking

Do you have a close friend, family member or partner who is suffering from an addiction or substance misuse?

Do you feel alone and that there is no one to talk to?

The Nelson Trust can help you with a family and carers weekend which are designed specifically for one or two members of the family, or close friends, affected by substance misuse. These weekends do not include the individual who has been affected by their own substance misuse/addiction but is for those who have been affected by that person.

Often people may feel alone and isolated and feel they have no one to talk to. Addiction and substance misuse does not only affect the individual themselves but also their relationships with those they are closest to. This wekeend provides a safe environment for friends and family to open up and share their experiences and feelings. The weekend does not include the individual who has been affected by their own substance misuse/addiction but is for those who have been affected by that person. The weekend includes workshops and practical strategies for managing communication with a substance misuser. Meeting others in similar situations has shown itself to be immensely helpful and in some circumstances, appears to be beneficial in helping family members motivate their loved one into treatment or to abstain for substance misuse. One family told us "We attended the Family Focus weekend in February 2013 due to our eldest sons' addictive behaviour and the impact this was having on our marriage and our family. After many years of struggling we found the course very helpful and it led to us to be able to challenge our son to stop taking drugs, in a way that worked".

The next carers weekend is 22nd –23rd November in Gloucester. Lunch and refreshments are provided.  The weekend is FREE to those with a Gloucestershire address. To book your place or find out more contact Di Porter on 01452 397692
