On Sunday 16th November 8 female members of staff from the Nelson Trust travelled to Cardiff to participate in a mud run to raise funds for The Hub, a new project which will see a community cafe set up in Gloucester.
The Hub is a project for those who have achieved recovery from addiction and so to help them sustain their recovery. The Hub aims to bring people together and to be a venue where families and friends can socialise in an alcohol-free environment. The Hub will also provide opportunities for people in early recovery to get training, volunteering and work experience in catering.
Participating in the mud run has allowed the team to raise vital funds to refurbish the building and turn it into a fully functioning cafe. The team thoroughly enjoyed the day and Ruth Saunders, one of the runners and The Hub Project Manager, said afterwards "I think that was the most surreal experience of my life but well worth it, it's an achievement for the whole team".
