Role Title: Hairdresser Volunteer – Female
Location: Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Pontypridd (one or multiple)
Hours: 3hrs per month for each centre

We are looking for experienced volunteer hairdressers to support women accessing our Women’s Centres across Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and Pontypridd.
At The Nelson Trust, we support women facing multiple disadvantages by providing safe, trauma-informed spaces where they can access practical support, wellbeing services, and opportunities to make positive changes in their lives. Something as simple as a haircut can have a powerful impact on confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing.

About the Role
As a Volunteer Hairdresser, you’ll provide free haircuts and basic styling for women attending our Women’s Centres. You’ll help create a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where women can feel valued, respected and supported.
You can choose to volunteer at one local centre or support multiple locations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Setting up a hairdressing station at one or more Women’s Centres
- Providing haircuts, trims, basic styling and blow-dries
- Consulting with clients to understand their preferences and needs
- Creating a welcoming and supportive experience for every woman you work with
- Using your skills to help women feel confident, dignified and empowered
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is:
- Professionally experienced as a hairdresser
- Able to provide their own hairdressing tools and equipment
- Friendly, approachable and reliable
- Well organised with good time-management skills
- Kind, empathetic and non-judgemental
- Comfortable working in a trauma-informed environment
Time Commitment
- Approximately 3 hours per month per Women’s Centre
- Flexible scheduling
- Volunteer at one centre or multiple locations
- Ongoing opportunity with regular monthly sessions

Additional Information
Successful volunteers will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check, provide two references, and undergo Enhanced Level 1 Vetting with HMPPS before starting their role.
