International Womens Day at The Nelson Trust
Across The Nelson Trust, our centres marked International Women’s Day (IWD) with a variety of empowering events for the women they support, as well as celebrating the incredible women on their teams.
This is what they got up to:
In Somerset, the team were given gifts of water bottles, chocolates and other trinkets as recognition for their kindness and compassion towards each other and their clients. The team shared:
“We are feeling truly valued and appreciated and remain focused on being the advocates we truly love being, putting our women at the centre of all we do.”
In Cardiff, the centre hosted a quiz with IWD themed cakes and encouraged an open discussion about the women they feel inspired by and how to lead by their example.
International Women’s Day was extremely busy in Swindon with multiple activities on offer to honour the strength, creativity and resilience of the women they support. The centre hosted cake decorating, kickboxing sessions, tarot readings, creative writing and pamper sessions. Each activity highlighted the power of female relationships and how these meaningful connections enrich lives.

On Friday 6th March, our Fundraising and Events Assistant, Emma Griffiths attended the C2S Growth Consultancy event at Gloucestershire College to raise awareness of the support services we offer and collected a huge donation of essential toiletries for the Gloucester Women’s Centre, which was incredibly generous.
At our residential treatment centres, they welcomed an inspiring panel of female speakers sharing how they embody this year’s theme, Give to Gain. This was followed by a lunch promoting healthy eating and a Give to Gain workshop.
In Cwm Taf, they welcomed Helen and Linda from Globaith Clothing to host a pop-up clothing event for the women, promoting empowerment through fashion and ensuring essentials, such as clothing, are easily accessible to women. The centres also got creative with writing their own powerful poetry and discussing what it means to be a woman.
Taking part in one of the biggest International Women’s Day events in the South West, our Bristol team attended Bristol Women’s Voices and Bristol City Council’s 2026 event at City Hall. A room filled with inspirational women and like-minded organisations that support and empower women in their daily work.
International Women’s Day is about speaking up against injustice, promoting women’s rights, acting for equal opportunities and celebrating the women who have championed gender equality in the past and for the generations to come – it’s also the work The Nelson Trust does day-to-day, and we are so proud to embody the IWD ethos 365 days a year.
