Somerset Council has recently announced their new Domestic Abuse Strategy for 2026 to 2029.
Their strategy outlines:
- Preventing domestic abuse and raising awareness
- Improving understanding of abuse within families
- Increasing access to safe accommodation and support
- Holding those who cause harm to account
- Tackling inequalities and improving access to services
- Recognising and supporting children as victims in their own right
Our Partnership and Development Manager at Somerset Women’s Centre shared her support:
“We welcome Somerset’s new Domestic Abuse Strategy. Through our work with women across Somerset, we see every day how domestic abuse is rarely an isolated issue.
It is often closely linked with trauma, poor mental health, housing insecurity, substance use, and other complex challenges that can make it harder for women to access support and move forward.
No single organisation can address these issues alone, but by working together, investing in early intervention, and making the best use of local resources, we have a real opportunity to improve outcomes for women and their families.
At The Nelson Trust, we are proud to work alongside the Somerset Domestic Abuse Board and our partners across the sector.
We remain committed to delivering trauma-informed, gender-responsive support that helps women stay safe, recover from abuse, and rebuild their lives with confidence and hope.
Together, we can create a future where every woman has access to the support she needs, when she needs it most.”
