Volunteer
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at The Nelson Trust is a unique chance to support individuals experiencing substance use and multiple unmet needs.
This rewarding experience enriches both our clients and yourself. Gain insight into recovery, form meaningful connections, and grow personally and professionally. Join us in inspiring positive change and transforming lives.
How can volunteering help?
There are a wide range of volunteering roles on offer here at The Nelson Trust, throughout many different areas of the organisation. Whether you’re interested in helping us with our fundraising work or getting involved in our day-to-day services we would love to talk to you about what our needs are and what you have to offer.
Every volunteer has something unique to give whether that be skills, energy, or life experiences. In return for your time, we will aim to give you all the support and training that you need to feel confident and effective in your chosen role, and we are also always willing to help with your personal and professional development. You will be provided with regular, structured supervision and a team leader that will be assigned to support you.
Where to volunteer
We have four areas of our organisation in which you could chose to volunteer:
The Hub Enterprises
The Hubs serve the recovery community by providing therapeutic ways to explore the recovery journey, training in life skills to help people get back on their feet, and education to help people return to work. Volunteer roles here include front of house positions and kitchen assistants at our Hub cafe’s in Gloucester and Cheltenham, and getting to know all things nature and plants with gardening at our Common Ground Community Garden and various other sites.
Residential Rehabilitation
Our residential programme is for men and women seeking an abstinence-based residential treatment programme to achieve lasting recovery from drug and alcohol use. Volunteer roles here include counselling opportunities and drivers that help clients get to their appointments.
Women’s Community Services
Our women’s community services span across the South West and Wales through our seven women’s centres, our mini hub in Camarthenshire and various outreach programmes. Our services are trauma informed and gender responsive, providing holistic support for women and their families. Volunteer roles include helping with our lunch clubs, creative art groups, and peer mentoring.
Fundraising and Events
Our events team is always busy organising and running a busy schedule of events throughout the year. They need energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to help out on one off event days or on an ongoing basis.
