Recently, our Bristol Partnerships Lead, Ellie Jones, appeared on Bristol Community FM (BCfm) during their Real Women segment, where she discussed the work we’re doing in Bristol.
Ellie recently joined a panel of hosts to discuss the support we provide to women in the city, while raising awareness of the need for women’s centres and a gender-responsive approach to substance use and multiple unmet needs.
She highlighted the findings from Bristol’s first Women’s Rough Sleeping Census, drawing attention to the stark contrast between the government’s snapshot figures and the data gathered in collaboration with One25, Shelter, Bristol City Council, and St Mungo’s. Ellie explained how many women experiencing homelessness go unnoticed, often resorting to alternative ways of staying safe at night, such as sleeping on buses, in 24-hour buildings, or walking the streets, resulting in a significant underreporting of rough sleeping among women.
Ellie also spoke about our role as ‘holders of hope’, supporting individuals on their recovery journeys by focusing on personalised recovery capital. She touched on our work with women in HMP Eastwood Park and the profound impact short custodial sentences can have on their lives and futures.
You can catch Ellie on the Real Women show, Tuesday 8th July, from 12:40 minutes on the 10am broadcast.
