Working at The Nelson Trust has not only transformed my life—it has given me the strength to help transform the lives of others.

My journey has been shaped by adversity, resilience, and a deep desire to turn pain into purpose. At 13, I was made homeless by my mother, and throughout my teenage years, I survived with the help of rare but powerful acts of kindness. I was then taken in by a family member who abused me for years. Despite this, I held on.
When I was in my 20s, my mother passed away. Her death, though we were estranged, was devastating. Shortly after, I became pregnant, and with that I became a single mother.
With no support network, I faced extreme poverty while trying to provide for my son. I made the difficult decision to deal drugs to keep a roof over our heads.
But as I reached my 30’s, I chose a different path. I committed to turning my life around. That’s when I began working for The Nelson Trust, and everything changed.
For the first time, I felt safe, supported, and part of a community of women who understood struggle and held hope.
Their compassion helped me heal wounds I didn’t know could be healed—especially those shaped by my relationship with my mother.
This work has grounded me, taught me the importance of showing up for myself, and given me a sense of meaning I never imagined a job could offer.
I care deeply about helping women, and I want my story to be a testament to survival, transformation, and the power of compassion.
Working at The Nelson Trust has not only transformed my life—it has given me the strength to help transform the lives of others.
It marked a profound turning point in my life. For the first time, I no longer feared homelessness and I was able to walk away from abuse.
This role has grounded me in ways I never expected. It taught me that I must show up for myself before I can truly show up for others.
Through this work, I’ve discovered a sense of purpose and meaning that I never imagined a job could offer.
I want to show that transformation is possible with the right support and I am proud to work for an organisation that truly lives these values.
Showing the power of collaboration and connection, empowering individuals and the power in finding our own sense of value and purpose has far reaching impacts far beyond just our own stories.
I care deeply about helping women, and I want my story and struggles to serve a greater good. Working at The Nelson Trust has not only transformed my life—it has given me the strength to help transform the lives of others.
