I didn’t care if I died before I came to The Nelson Trust. Now I care deeply about my life. It’s safe here, it’s safe, I’ve never felt safe before.
I thought that my anxiety was normal, my family was always violent, I thought that was normal, I was so broken.
Before, I didn’t know how to cope with my feelings, with my past and then I used. I was given alcohol since the age of 10, I was in a lot of fear. All through my life adults have hurt me.
Here I trusted the staff and my peers; they never let me down. Here, I put my past to rest, my past doesn’t hold me prisoner anymore, I’m free from my past and my addiction now.
Although treatment groups are difficult and triggering, but it’s trauma informed. I’ve learned so many tools to deal with my anxiety now.
I’m so grateful, I’m blessed today, but a lot of people don’t get this.
